Keane bemoans Sunderland innocence
November 12, 2007
Sunderland manager Roy Keane admits the team must unearth a nasty streak if they are to climb away from the dreaded drop-zone during the rest of the season.
The Black Cats’ winless sequence stretched to seven games with Saturday’s 1-1 derby draw with Newcastle United.
That result, combined with Tottenham’s demolition of Wigan Athletic on Sunday, saw Keane’s side drop into the bottom five in the Premier League table.
And Keane feels a lack of belief is the principal problem in his dressing-room. He said: “We’re innocent sometimes in our football. You get people saying ’You’re doing well.’ But we need a bit more experience, a bit more nastiness. We have to be a bit more streetwise.
"A third of the season has gone. If we continue at this rate it will make things difficult for us. But I do believe these games, these experiences, will make us stronger.”
