Kinnear throws hat in Scotland ring
November 18, 2009
Joe Kinnear has revealed that he would be willing to speak with the Scottish Football Association regarding the vacant job of national team manager.
The SFA brought down the curtain on George Burley’s ill-fated tenure this week in the wake of Saturday’s dismal 3-0 defeat to Wales.
Craig Levein, the current Dundee United manager, Rangers and former Scotland captain John Collins are the front-runners for the position.
But Kinnear, who was forced to step down as Newcastle United boss earlier this year through ill-health, has declared his interest in taking charge of the Tartan Army.
He said: “When I left Tottenham I moved on abroad and my first job abroad was as manager of India. I was out there for two years, so I started off with an international side.
“I missed out on, I think, two occasions to be the manager of Ireland, which would always have been a dream job for me.
“But [Scotland?]. Sure, why not? I’ll throw my hat in the ring. If they felt they wanted to interview me, I’d be more than happy to go along and talk.”
