Chambers makes Hoops move

Shamrock Rovers manager Michael O’Neill has snapped up James Chambers from Premier Division rivals Drogheda United.

Chambers played a key role in Drogheda’s top flight survival this season, scoring seven regular season goals and another in the relegation play-off against Bray Wanderers.

He will join a Rovers squad which will be fancied by many to go all the way to League of Ireland success in 2010 after this year’s sustained challenge came up just short.

Speaking about his first piece of transfer business of the close-season, O’Neill said: “I believe James is one of the most promising young players in the league. He has a great desire to improve and as he showed last season with Drogheda, he is a goal threat from midfield and a dead ball specialist. We are delighted to have him at the club and look forward to working with him.”
