Hi there,
I’m a footballer/futsaler from New Zealand and am moving to Dublin in late june/early july. I’ve been playing at premier level for my district for under 19’s (like county) and for New Zealand in futsal. I have been off for the last season due to injury (ankle) and am looking to make my comeback this year.
What are the season dates, and what clubs are there in the central city area of Dublin? (we will be living in Dublin 1 or 2 most likely). I am also a certified level 1 referee in New Zealand and would be interested in umpiring.
Thanks! |

New Manager for Athlone |
|
|
Long wait is over Lennon gets Town Job
The long wait is over as Dermot Lennon has been appointed new manager of Athlone Town for next season.
Lennon has been given the reins of the Town after a spell as caretaker manager last season, after taking over from Michael O’Connor mid season after a bad run of results.
Lennon, who guided Athlone to five, wins, five draws and nine defeats from 19 games,
Athlone Town has been plying its trade in the First Division since relegation in 1996 and finished sixth last season after Dermot Lennon took over following Michael O’Connor’s departure from the club in July. Hopes had previously been high that Athlone could challenge for the First Division title last season after heavy investment in the playing squad and a move to a new stadium in Lissywoollen.
Previous managers have lost their jobs at the club for failing to deliver the dream of Premiership football, Lennon knows he could join them if he does not deliver.
Lennon is on a one year contact, and immediately set himself the task of turning Athlone Town around for next season.
This does not look like a long term appointed to me, it will take Lennon three seasons to put the Town back on the right track, with little or no money to work with.
In coming players will look at the money problems of last season and may think twice about joining the club.
One major problem for Lennon will be working on half of last season’s player’s budget, it will be hard to sign quality players for this season, and will have to work with local base players from day one.
Does this mean the club taking the road they took last season when the club struggled financially for half the season or take the direction of cutting the budget in half and using money saved to get the club back in the community again.
One of Lennon first jobs, is to win over the club’s supporters with the club at an all time low and with attendances dropping dramatically, no club website, one of the biggest problem was the lack of information coming from the committee during the season.
The Committee are now saying they are confident that they will not struggle with wages going unpaid like on several occasions last season and are looking to push to return to the top flight this season, who are they kidding with Lennon working on half of last season budget , it’s look’s like a very long season ahead for the supporters.
At this the stage of the close season, many clubs are moving in the transfer market for players for next season and its important Athlone Town are not left behind.

eircom league |
|
|
i have just found this site and how refreshing it is that the topic is eircom league instead of english football . i am an ardent e l supporter and i find it difficult to understand why the people of this country support english football and wont support their own . then they have the absolute cheek to offer their opinion on the standard of the game here when they have never been inside one of our grounds except when an eircom league team were playing a friendly against an english team and they come along to support the english team . then you look at the leader of our country over supporting manchester united while the currant eircom league champions who lie in the shadow of his st lukes office have nearly gone to the wall through lack of support and then there is the parents of our young kids buying the shirts of english clubs for their kids and if you asked them who cork city or bohemians or shamrock rovers are they would not be able to tell you it is laughable |
