KEY PLAYER
Comes into the tournament on the back of a difficult first season at Bayer Leverkusen but there can
be no doubt that Gekas has the potential to be one of the lesser lights to grab hold of a major tournament - a
la Oleg Salenko, perhaps. Top scored in the Bundesliga in 2006/07, when his 20 goals put established international
stars such as Roy Makaay, Kevin Kuranyi and Miroslav Klose in the shade. (In theory, should Rehhagel deploy the 4-5-1
system which took the Greeks all the way four years ago, the taller and sturdier Angelos Charisteas could get the nod.
Which would leave Gekas on the sidelines and egg on our faces ... As an aside, watch out for the mullet - it's sure to be dafter than
anything on show in the Big Brother house.)
