KEY PLAYER
Pirlo was immense as Italy lifted the World Cup in 2006 and propelled Milan to the Uefa Champions League
last year. The signs from a bitterly disappointing campaign at home and abroad are that, even at 29, he may
be on the downgrade - against Arsenal in particular, he found the drive and energy of Cesc Fabregas far too
hot to handle. But with ball-winning midfielders such as Gattuso and De Rossi lacking the poise to unlock
packed defences, Italy will need Pirlo back to his best if they are to make it two major tournament wins on
the spin.
