KEY PLAYER
The Spartak Moscow forward has endured a dip in form in the second half of the season but that was
inevitable, perhaps, after the heights of the previous 12 months, during which he scored both goals against
England to put a dent in Steve McClaren's job satisfaction. With his rival for the centre forward role,
Zenit St Petersburg's Uefa Cup top scorer Pavel Pogrebnyak, doubtful through injury and Zenit's mercurial
playmaker Dimitri Arshavin suspended for the first two games of the group, Pavlyuchenko should become the
focal point of Guus Hiddink's side.
