Thomas Davis encourages members to politicize stadium row
April 19, 2007
South Dublin GAA club Thomas Davis has urged members to make the thorny row over the Tallaght Stadium a political issue in the build-up to the forthcoming general election.
A letter circulated by the club advises members to challenge election candidates on the issue, recommending that support should be withheld if candidate views support the Government stance on the issue.
Minister for Arts, Tourism and Sport, John O’Donoghue, has stressed that public funding rests on the construction of the stadium as a soccer-only venue as home for Shamrock Rovers.
Local TD Conor Lenihan, who has voiced his support for the Minister, now finds himself at the centre of the growing row, with the letter, signed by Thomas Davis club chairman Christopher O’Donnell, urging members not to vote for the Fianna Fail candidate in next month’s election.
