Shels reveal CAB 2000 tie-up
March 2, 2009
Shelbourne Football Club has announced a sponsorship deal with Dublin taxi firm CAB 2000.
The CAB 2000 tie-up covers the League of Ireland side as well as every one of the 20 teams within the Shelbourne club.
Benefiting the Tolka Park club to the tune of a six-figure sum, the contract is for a two-year renewable period.
Based at Main Street, Swords, CAB 2000 has been in existence for 16 years and operates more than 450 vehicles, making it one of the largest and the fastest growing taxi firms in the country.
Founder and Managing Director Anthony Kelly said: “In our business its all about getting your number out there and in Shelbourne FC we have found an excellent vehicle for increasing brand awareness.
“As a company CAB 2000 takes its community responsibilities very seriously and as this sponsorship covers over 300 male and female footballers, it fits perfectly with our concept of giving something back.”
Welcoming CAB 2000 as main sponsor Shelbourne FC chairman Joe Casey added: “The signing of this deal with CAB 2000 has enabled us to strengthen our team for the coming season in a way that would otherwise not have been possible.
“I would like to put on record the thanks of the Shelbourne FC Board of Management to CAB 2000 Managing Director Anthony Kelly for taking the step into football sponsorship at such a difficult time economically.
“The team that Dermot [Keely, the Shels manager] has assembled for the coming season is one that is designed to be competitive and I hope this maximises what we can do for CAB 2000.”
Keely said: “We have done very well in pre-season and the old and new players have blended in better than I could have hoped for at this stage.
“I have assembled a squad that I expect will be there or thereabouts. In Sporting Fingal we face a club with considerably greater financial resources than we have, so I expect to have even more grey hairs come the end of the season in November.
“Losing out on promotion in the way we did last year hurt deeply and we intend to finally banish that memory come the end of the season.”
