FAI announce Lucozade deal
June 28, 2005
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has announced details of a new €2m sponsorship deal with energy drinks company Lucozade Sport.
The FAI concluded the new commercial contract after successfully negotiating a new sponsorship agreement with Lucozade Sport, covering the period up to the World Cup in 2010.
The five-year deal involves the market-leading brand renewing its status as official sports drink of the FAI with Lucozade Sport being used in training sessions and games by the National Senior Team, eircom League, ladies teams and other representative teams.
As part of the deal, Lucozade Sport will provide sports nutrition products to the teams involved. Other benefits include sports education workshops to all soccer teams nationwide, with over 100 such workshops conducted in the past year.
The funding, which includes €1.1 million in cash over a five-year period and the remainder in product, bottles, carriers and medical bags, will provide increased resources for the growing numbers of FAI initiatives to develop the game, through representative squads, and ultimately strengthen the organisation as a whole. The agreement represents a 50% cash increase from the previous contract.
The contract follows the national senior team’s recent victory over the Faroe Islands and the possibility of qualifying for the World Cup in Germany 2006.
Welcoming the deal, FAI Chief Executive Officer John Delaney said: “This agreement is a significant boost for the organisation and those playing in all areas of the game. Lucozade Sport have been consistent supporters of the FAI and this new commitment will continue to contribute to the success of football in Ireland.”
Jocelyn Emerson, Marketing Director for Lucozade Sport, said: “We are delighted to be renewing our partnership with the FAI, especially in light of their track record of supporting sports people when training and competing at all levels.”
