Roadstone is a major supplier of Stone, Ready-mix Concrete, Concrete Products and Bituminous materials to the Building and Construction industry through-out Ireland. The company are also specialist contractors in Road Surfacing.

The company operates nine locations in South-East Ireland, in Waterford, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, and Carlow, including Limestone Quarries, Sand Pit, Blockyards, Ready Mixed Concrete Plants and Blacktop Plants. Our fleet of over two hundred vehicles and our Retail Centre provide products and services to a wide base of large to small customers.

Stone & Aggregates


Roadstone supplies all grades of stone and aggregates to meet the needs of its customers. The variety of stones is made to cover a wide range of products from Civil Engineering to Domestic Use.

Aggregates are used for the maintenance, improvement and new construction of over 100,000 km of road network in Ireland. Larger sized stone are used to form the base of the road while smaller sized aggregates mixed with bitumen are used in the macadam pavement layers.

Stone is an essential material and practically every house, school, hospital, stadium, shopping mall, sports centre, road and other building and civil engineering projects needs stone of one type or another for its construction. It is a durable product lasting thousands of years.

Examples of its specific use includes, Road bases, House foundations, Site development, Railway Ballast, Surface dressing and in the production of asphalt, concrete, rooftiles and building blocks and bricks.


Ready-mix Concrete


Concrete is produced from our network of six computerised batching plants strategically located to service our customers throughout South-East Ireland.

We are committed to quality and all our plants operate to, and are independently audited against both ISO 9002 Quality Management System and the new European and Irish concrete standard I.S. EN 206.

Our focus is on concrete quality, customer service and technical support through our dedicated team of salespeople, drivers, dispatch staff and quality control technicians. Our fleet of over forty concrete trucks gives us the capability to cater for the largest of concrete pours.

We supply to all sectors of our industry including Residential, Industrial, Commercial, Agricultural and Civil Engineering and cater for all concrete mix requirements from 5.0n/mm2 to 60.0n/mm2. Special mixes can be designed on request.


Mortar & Plaster


Mortar and plaster are pre-mixed ready to use products specially formulated for Block/Brick laying and plastering, both internal and external. The products are produced in modern computerised mixing plants and delivered to site to suit customers’ requirements. It holds the required properties of cohesiveness and workability for its specified retardation period in the delivery containers but starts to set as it loses water into the surrounding material during use.

Flomix, a ready-to-use premixed dry mortar is also available. Flomix Silo provides the benefits of improved workability, stability and bonding properties.

Designation III Mortar is normally supplied for common Block/Brick work and internal undercoat plaster. Designation II Plaster is normally supplied for external plastering and some high strength Block/Brick work.

Availability
Mortar and Plaster are available with a life of 1, 11/2 or 2 days from time of delivery in the 1/3m3 containers, and in colours as agreed and delivered to site daily as required.
Flomix Silos containing dry mortar are delivered to a pre-arranged location on site and are commissioned by our qualified service technicians. For immediate use we can provide an on-site tanker refill service for natural mortar.

Instructions for use
Failure of the product may occur if the following instructions are not adhered to.
1. The addition of water or other material may affect the colour, strength and or texture of the product.
2. Use only within the specified retardation period.
3. Extreme caution must be exercised when using Mortar/Plaster with components of low absorption, which includes saturated walls, blocks/bricks, engineering brick or natural stone etc.
4. Pre-dampen the surface of high absorbent components and walls to assist bond.
5. Prior to plastering scud entire area to a depth of 3 to 5 mm. Undercoats should be scratched to a sufficient depth and regularity to provide good adhesion for the following coat. Allow previous coat to dry before applying further coat.
6. Protect freshly built walls and plaster against severe weather.
7. All design details and workmanship should comply with the following: Mortar: - B.S. 5628 Port 3 1985 Plaster: - B.S. 5262 1990 for external render B.S. 5492 1990 for internal plaster.

Skip Use
Skips should only be lifted by placing a fork or sling in the handle or recesses provided, any other way is dangerous. Roadstone will not be responsible for any claim whatsoever, whether in respect of any personal injury to site employees, agents, third parties or the general public or in respect to any damage to property arising out of the use, misuse or non-use of skips on site. The weight of a full skip of mortar is approximately 600kgs.

The South-East Contracts Department of Roadstone is specialised in the production and laying of road surfacing materials.

Public Contracts
The substantial investment that is currently being made in the transport infrastructure of Ireland is responsible for a major part of the activity of the Department. The Contracts Department has been involved in the construction of most major projects in the South-East (e.g. N11 Gorey – Wexford; N25 Waterford - Dungarvan)

Commercial Contracts
The construction of roads, car parks and footways for commercial, industrial and housing projects is the second largest activity of the Contracts Department.

Private Contracts
The Contracts Department also caters for road making need of private individuals such as constructing driveways, access roads and car parks.

Innovation
The contracts Department works continuously to produce new surfacing materials and surfacing techniques to cater for the evolving needs of our customer base.
Roadstone is at the forefront of the road construction industry in the use of materials such as Stone Mastic Asphalt, Thin Surfacing, Porous Asphalt, Foamix, etc.


Blocks


General
Roadstone concrete blocks are manufactured to 1.S. 20 from aggregates specially produced at various quarries, therefore variations in colour, texture and weight may occur depending on source location.

Strengths
4” standard blocks are also available in 10 and 20 N/mm2 while 9” cavity blocks are available in 5 N/mm2. Other blocks may be produced to order in high strengths depending on quantities required etc.

Surface Finish
Our common finish blocks are normally rendered and therefore can have a varying open texture.
Fair faced finished blocks are produced in 4” standard, 9” cavity and U Blocks. Other fair faced blocks may be produced to order depending on quantities required etc.


Sports Sand


Roadstone Sports Sand is a quality sand that meets the exacting standards required for top dressing golf fairways and all types of traditional pitches including the installation of sand carpets on traditional soil based pitches and the construction of full sand based pitches. Roadstone Sports Sand is increasingly being specified in the development of a variety of sports surfaces including Soccer, Rugby, Gaelic and also on Golf course fairways.

Traditional Soil Based Pitches - Sand Carpet Installation
Our Sports Sand is the ideal topdressing to achieve a sand carpet on traditional soil based pitches. This can be implemented as a single operation or over a period of 2 to 4 years. Minimum quantities per application On Soccer Pitches: 70 - 100 tons of Sports Sand is recommended per application. On Gaelic Pitches: 135 - 150 tons of Sports Sand is recommended per application. On Rugby Pitches: 100 - 135 tons of Sports sand is recommended per application.(giving 5mm coverage on the pitch surface)Topdressing immediately prior to positive aeration procedures is strongly recommended, these positive aeration practices include fracturing and vertidraining.

Indeed Roadstone is the largest producer of bricks in Ireland, with as many as 30 bricks to choose from at the Kilmacow Retail Centre. Top names include Ormonde Brick, made at Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny and Tyrone Clay Bricks. Another top choice at the Kilmacow Retail Centre for DIY enthusiasts is Roadstone’s Easy-fix Glassblocks.
